Thurs July 12 2018

Hello FOG Lovers! Some amazing things have been happening! The recording of our CD has gone forward in leaps and bounds . We have received some fantastic and unique horn arrangements from our friend Don Breithaupt and we engaged some world class players for the horn section.

John Beetle Bailey and Don opted for a 3 saxophone and 1 trombone configuration. The tracks were recorded in one day at a studio which will remain nameless, it was a very unique atmosphere!

Larry Bodner played alto sax. Larry’s credits include playing with bands UB40, Lighthouse, Downchild Blues Band, Muddy Waters,Shakura S’aida,Betty Lavette and many more. Larry is active in the Canadian Jazz scene as well as teaches with a background from Humber College and North Texas State University. Larry is also, Dan Jancar’s (FOG’s Saxaphone player) teacher. This recording is the first for Dan to record with Larry!

On tenor sax, FOG had the distinct pleasure of the incomparable Pat Labarbera!
Pat has an extensive career playing most notably with The Buddy Rich Orchestra and Elvin Jones! Pat can be heard on a plethora of recordings from Stevie Wonder to Ella Fitzgerald  and many other famous artists! Pat is a world class player who also teaches jazz improv at Humber  College. This recording is the first for Hills (FOG’s Vocalist) to record with Uncle Pat!

On trombone we have the amazing William Carn. William also teaches at Humber and is one of the top trombonists in the country and has recorded and performed with Rob McConnell, Randy Brecker, Dave Binney and many more. William is a very sought after player who is very diverse in his approach to music.

FOG’s own Dan Jancar played baritone sax on the 10 song album and sounded and performed magnificently on the session and fit in the ensemble like a glove!

This project is many facetted with a few writers contributing to the material and it does take a village as the saying goes.

We have more live shows coming. On Saturday July 14th we are back at Churchill Arms in Waterloo to rock the house and August 25th we are at BOBBY O’BRIENS in Kitchener. Recent past shows include a couple in Guelph at Qball’s and Louie’s on Lewis Road . Thanks to Dawn Fairbanks for booking those shows and believing in us. FOG hopes to work with Dawn a lot more for future shows!!

FOG T-SHIRTS are available at the low price of 15 dollars (tax included) so if you would like one — contact us here on the site or go to our Facebook page FOG/PRODUCT SERVICE and we will hook you up!! We also have them available at our live shows too. So until next time– SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC AND KEEP COOL !!!

Fri May 25 2018

Its been too long since my last entry and a lot has happened !! We have a new guitar player Tim Palser and he brings the band to a new and higher level We thank Walter Horn and wish him the best in his future plans.

The CD is about 60% complete with 5 tracks of lead vocals and the other 5 to be done shortly! we also employed DON BREITHAUPT from MONKEY HOUSE to write and arrange our 4 part horn section charts. Don is a master at writing killer charts and has written for Sultans of String , Micah Barnes and many others we will eventually expand to a 9 piece ensemble with 3 saxes and a trombone so the resulting sound will be huge!! We are indeed blessed!

Some local shows are in the offing  in Waterloo and Guelph At the St Louis Bar and Grill in Waterloo and the Churchill Arms -Q Balls in Guelph is also happening in June .

We also have TSHIRTS available !! If you would like one they are 15 bucks each so if you would like one message us on this website or on FOG/ product service on Facebook!! Or message Hills Walt or Al Hosack and they will hook you up!!

Enjoy the fine weather and come out and see us “on the road” Live music is best!!

After a very successful show at the Dominion House in Stratford last week, Fog is moving more and more toward our goal of recording our first CD of original material. Songs will be penned by the band and several co writing partners. It is with great pleasure that we announce that we have enlisted the talents of Bill Mononen, Guitarist, formerly of “Copperpenny”, “Your Favourite Thing” and “Yukon”. Bill along with Ron Hiller and Rich Wamil are best known for writing the Canadian and international hit, “Sittin on a Poor Man’s Throne”!  This song was made famous by Copperpenny and then a remake was done by the one and only Bobby “Blue” Bland!

Bill has a wealth of song ideas and we are thrilled to have him on board!! The CD will be engineered and co-produced by Hills’s good friend John “Beetle” Bailey. John has worked with Molly Johnson and won a Juno for engineering Molly’s CD “Rain”. The list goes on and on, Tom Cochrane, Olivia Newton John, Ian Thomas, and Monkey House to name a few. We are in good hands on the production side of things!  Fog is taking their time to make sure the product we release is of the best quality. We wouldn’t want to disappoint you – OUR FANS!!

The next show is January 14, 2017 at the Kitchener Auditorium – Annex in the lounge between the ice pads with rock band “Everyday Hero” and “The Matt Weidinger Band” . That show will be a blast! “Matt Weidinger” will play from 2:00 p.m. until approximately 4:30 p.m.. “Fog” will play from 5:00 p.m. to around 7:00 p.m. and “Every Day Hero” will finish the evening off.

Remember, LIVE MUSIC IS BEST and let’s keep the FOG  ROLLING!!  .

Monday March 21st 2016

Its been an interesting time since my last blog entry – some sad news – Mo Kauffey has lost his battle with cancer recently and the world has lost a great man and huge talent. RIP Mo–you will always be remembered.
Another local and well known musician Ralph “Chick” Shumilas had been fighting that dreaded scourge on humanity as well. He was a giant in the music community and is a terrible loss to countless friends he had. RIP Chick– which leads me to this—
In  honour of his wishes there will be a benefit held on APRIL 23 2016 at BOBBY O’BRIENS in Kitchener . There are 5 musical acts performing that night -Johnsons Creek will play at 7 till 7:45-Chuckee and the Crawdaddies from 8 till
8:45-then — FOG– from 9 till 9:45 –Jonas Kick from 10 till 10:45 and then to close the show Jo Panic  –11 till 11:45 or maybe beyond–
There will be no cover charge but a donation box will be available so you can pay what you feel and if you don’t then that is fine as well –no one will be turned away since this is a celebration of Chick’s life and a gathering of his family and friends in remembrance and reflection.
FOG is progressing nicely on our original CD recording project and at the benefit show we will be featuring some of our original songs playing some for the first time so have a listen and tell us what you think of them and don’t hesitate to comment on the site here – we want your feedback !!!

Sunday January 10th 2016

Another New Year is upon us and I hope everyone has a healthy Happy and Prosperous 2016.
FOG has now embarked on our journey to recording our first CD of original blues songs and we cannot be more stoked to begin this project.!! Of course we will be shopping around to play live venues to present our show to you fans but the goal is to get our original music which is essential to moving on to bigger and better venues down the road. We love to play OUR music for our fans and it seems with Facebook Reverbnation Fandalism and Youtube collectively, we have over 50 thousand views !! With that I want to THANK YOU FOG FANS for your ongoing support!!
HIlls had entered his original song “Backwoods” to to a songwriters contest for original song and has garnered quite the buzz !!It seems that you like the song in a big way and we will bring more interesting and original material for your enjoyment . Please feel free to comment on what you see and hear from us and all comments ( good OR bad) will be much appreciated! We want you fans to be a part of this journey with us as we expand our horizons.

Its been a while since my last entry but there has been lot going on with the band ! We performed our show at Cork Hall in Kitchener on November 7th to a very receptive crowd of FOG fans and from this show -which was recorded live-we posted 2 videos of our original material -the first song-“Backwoods ” and I must say –we are getting great views on Fandalism and Reverbnation . As of this post, we have received over 2100 views on Fandalism alone!! That translates to around 80 views per day –and on Reverbnation we have been in the top 5 for local blues–THANK YOU to all of you FOG fans and those who watched it who just enjoyed looking and listening to us!!
Our second original song “Steady Rolling Man” is following in the footsteps of “Backwoods” and is getting positive appeal as well!
On December 4th we did a show for the benefit of our blues brother Mo Kauffey who is struggling with stage 4 cancer. It was with three other blues acts at Van Gogh’s Ear in Guelph Ontario and it was a pleasure to donate our time and talent to Mo who had very little benefits to help in his fight. It was great exposure for us and we garnered some new FOG fans . We are now working on our first CD of original material and we will be recording for the next while.I will let you know how things are progressing as we travel along the path of becoming an original Blues band.!!
To all our fans and everyone out there-Have a Happy and safe Christmas and Holiday Season and may the New Year bring all of you Health Wealth and Happiness!! LIVE MUSIC RULES!!!!!!!!

  2. Bobby – see you’re still tickling those ivories after all these years. Remember when you played with us for a short stint in “Jimmy & the Rainbows” – well Jimmy and I moved to Florida in the late 70’s and have been here ever since. Your group sounds good – love that sound – always liked Downchild – remember we used to do “flip Flop & Fly. Still have my Gibson ES 335 that I got from your guitar player in Yukon – Ted something…..
